Talk 4: Where Can I Stop Thinking?

How do I stop thinking so much? It’s a question with the wrong target, pointed in the wrong direction. In this live Q & A recording a meditator asks the question that naturally arises to anyone who tries to meditate. A question that is always going to come up from time to time for everyone. Naturally we may seek to stop or reduce thought because it seems to be something that’s not great for us, to say the least. But is this so? Or is there nothing wrong with thought itself, and what we truly want is just to not suffer our thoughts. Explore the important pointer in this talk.

I really enjoyed listening to this Q&A discussion. It’s nice to hear other peoples thoughts, questions, and experiences with meditation.

I really love your take on this Alan, because I think those of us who try meditation think the goal is to have no thought, but we don’t really control whether or not a thought comes into our head. In fact, we might be obsessed with the thought of not having a thought! So I like the angle of just not suffering with the thought. If they come, accept them, it’s great. If they don’t, accept that, it’s great. 🙂

    • Hi Andrea! Nice to hear from you again. I’m glad you listened to this because it’s one of the most important things to understand about meditation.
